The Union Cabinet today approved the proposal for Kochi Metro Rail Project.
The Kochi Metro Rail will improve the public transport system of Kochi. The total cost of the project is Rs.5181.79 crore covering total length of 25.612 kilometres and consisting of 23 stations. It will be fully elevated and will run from Alwaye to Petta on standard gauge.
In the total project cost, Government of India's (GoI) share will be Rs.1002.23 crore and Government of Kerala's (GoK) share will be Rs.l,772.23 crore. External Debt will be Rs.2,170 crore and State taxes including escalation to be borne by GoK will be Rs.237.33 crore. The project will be executed by Special Purpose Vehicle of GoI and GoK having 50:50 equity of each. The project is scheduled to be completed in four years from the date of start of the work.
