Funds to MPEDA for Quality Control Laboratories

The Government has taken suitable measures to boost export by effectively implementing a number of schemes all over India including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala as per the following details.

 (i)  Sea Freight Assistance:- The scheme is being operated by MPEDA to encourage Manufacturer Exporters of marine products to import raw materials for value addition and re-export for better utilization of installed capacity in the seafood processing units and thereby increase the production and export.

 (ii)  Development Assistance for export of Ornamental/Aquarium Fishes/Live Aquarium Plants:- To boost the Ornamental fish exports from India, MPEDA is extending “Developmental Assistance” to the ornamental fish exporters.

(iii)   Quality Logo scheme:- A scheme for promoting the brand of Indian Value Added Marine Products, “MPEDA Quality Logo scheme” is being operated.

(iv)  Development financial assistance schemes:- In order to facilitate export of value added marine food and fishery products in the country, Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) is operating  Subsidy Scheme for acquisition of machinery for tuna cannery / processing of value added tuna product and Technology Upgradation Scheme for Marine Products (TUSMP

MPEDA has requested for Rs. 10.64 crores during 2013-14 for the following activities:
(1)Implementation of National Residue Control plan (NRCP)

Including procurement of Analytical instruments for Rs.7.5 Cr. -    Rs.9.99 Crores

(2)  Setting up of own facilities for labs at Bhimavaram & Nellore –    Rs.0.15 Crores

(3)  New QC Labs at Bhubaneswar and Chennai                               -    Rs.0.15 Crores    

(4)  Elisa screening Laboratories-existing 16 nos, proposed 9 nos. –     Rs.0.35  Crores

Entire amount of Rs. 10.64 crore has been released to MPEDA during the current year.  Moreover, during the 11th plan period (2007-08 to 2011-12) an amount of Rs 51.05 crores was allocated for setting up infrastructural facilities including “Fish drying yards”.
The information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Dr. E.M. Sudarsana Natchiappan in Rajya Sabha today.
