A meeting of the National Committee (NC) to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, was held here today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh.
The meeting was attended by Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson UPA; Defence Minister, Shri A. K. Antony; Finance Minister, Shri P. Chidambaram; Minister for Law & Justice and Department of Telecommunications, Shri Kapil Sibal along with other Cabinet Ministers and a galaxy of scholars and academicians of repute from various Institutions.
Celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Pt. Nehru in a befitting manner will be a tribute to the great leader and an architect of modern India.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister stated that 125th Birth anniversary of Sh. Nehru should be celebrated in a most befitting manner especially with a focus on inspiring the younger generation of his life, achievements and contribution, both nationally and internationally.
In her opening remarks, Culture Minister Smt. Chandresh Kumari Katoch described Pt. Nehru as a man with great vision for all round development of the country.
She stated that besides promoting development of infrastructure, Pt. Nehru also promoted science and scientific research and development for industrial and agricultural growth in the country.
The meeting deliberated upon a number of proposals received from Nehru Memorial Museum & Library (NMML), some members of the NC and other organisations. Broad areas of action identified during the discussions are as under:
(i) Organisation of exhibitions, seminars, workshops etc. in different parts of the country
(ii) Development of a Portal on Nehru
(iii) Completion of the ‘Selected works of Jawaharlal Nehru’.
(iv) Renovation and Modernisation of Nehru Memorial Museum.
(v) Production of feature film/documentaries on Nehru.
The details and implementation of these decisions will be worked out through a National Implementation
Committee which will be set up.
